چکیده

Submitted for the DFD05 Meeting of The American Physical Society Hole Dynamics in Polymer Langmuir Films J. ADIN MANN, JR., JAMES ALEXANDER, Case Western Reserve University, ANDREW BERNOFF, Harvey Mudd College, LU ZOU, ELIZABETH MANN, Kent State University — We develop a model for the closing of a gaseous hole in a liquid domain within a two-dimensional fluid layer, a Langmuir film, coupled to a fluid bulk substrate. This model is compared to experiments that follow hole dynamics in a polymer Langmuir film. Closure of such a hole in a fluid layer is driven by the difference in spreading pressure within the hole and far outside it, and by the line tension. The observed rate of hole closing is close to that predicted by our model and the line tension measured by other means, assuming that the spreading pressure in the surface-gas phase is negligible. This result both supports the model and suggests an independent means of determining the line tension. Unlike most previous hydrodynamics models of Langmuir films, the closing of a hole necessarily invloves vertical motion of the underlying incompressible fluid: that fluid is dragged along with the liquid monolayer towards the center of the hole, and must plunge away from the surface. An explicit expression is found for this vertical fluid flow in the bulk substrate. J. Adin Mann, Jr. Case Western Reserve University Date submitted: 11 Aug 2005 Electronic form version 1.4

Surface rheology of two-dimensional percolating networks: Langmuir films of polymer pancakes.

We report surface rheological measurements on Langmuir films of submicron-sized polymer coils (pancakes). The dynamics of the sol phase is found to be governed by free volume as in the simplest percolation problem. The observed rheology of the percolated phase (gel-like) is compatible with predictions for compressed arrangements of highly deformed soft particles interacting through their contac...

Graphene Oxide-Polymer Composite Langmuir Films Constructed by Interfacial Thiol-Ene Photopolymerization

The effective synthesis and self-assembly of graphene oxide (GO) nanocomposites are of key importance for a broad range of nanomaterial applications. In this work, a one-step chemical strategy is presented to synthesize stable GO-polymer Langmuir composite films by interfacial thiol-ene photopolymerization at room temperature, without use of any crosslinking agents and stabilizing agents. It is...

Ordered and ultrathin reduced graphene oxide LB films as hole injection layers for organic light-emitting diode

In this paper, we demonstrated the utilization of reduced graphene oxide (RGO) Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films as high performance hole injection layer in organic light-emitting diode (OLED). By using LB technique, the well-ordered and thickness-controlled RGO sheets are incorporated between the organic active layer and the transparent conducting indium tin oxide (ITO), leading to an increase of r...

Subnanosecond charge recombination dynamics in P3HT/PC61BM films.

Ultrafast near-infrared absorption spectroscopy was used to investigate the influence of film morphology and excitation photon energy on the charge recombination (CR) dynamics in the initial nanosecond timescale in the P3HT/PC(61)BM blend films. With reference to the CS(2)-cast films, the solvent vapor annealed (SVA) ones show 2–3-fold improvement in hole mobility and more than 5-fold reduction...
